01 Jan 1130 Resupply ship evacuated fwo men from D Co:Brewster, Avery D. with gunshot wound and Lt Thomston, John R. with FUO.
01 Jan 1140 Rec'd RTT message from Bde. Message #01002 subject: 11thInf. Bde. OPN plans New Years truce period. Ack to Bde./Moore.
01 Jan 1240 At 311700 the 3-1 Co A was destroying hootches using M-79 from about 30 meters line. Line #68 Berries, Latore A. caught a piece of shrapnel in the left part of his neck.
02 Jan 0610 Fr Bde./Tate: Weather report, Cloudy with heavy rains, Temp high 73, low-67.Winds 10 to 18 knots.
02 Jan 0700 Co B 3-2 at time 0600 at grid 722337 had a mech detonate and checked it out at first light with neg results.
03 Jan 0200 Weather warning - Winds from N/NW at 20 to 30 knots occassionally to 40 knots. Weather warning until 1000 hrs 03 Jan 71.
03 Jan 1540 Co D 2-2 at time 1535 at grid 610435 observed two VC on a hilltop. They were working on something near a bush.When fired on by Arty at 031542 they evaded to the east into the woodline.They were wearing black pj's with the pants rolled up to the knees. The unit saw no packs or weapons.The element observed no effects from the Arty.

04 Jan 1145 Late entry: Wieczorek, Phillip was extracted From field to Duc Pho. He had a fever of 102.4 with stomach cramps.Message was passed to S1/Vestal to return man to SJH. Wieczorek, Phillip is from A Co 2-2.
04 Jan 1645 From D Co 2-1 line # 120 Kennedy, Andrew J 7818 has temp of 103.4, nausea, diarhea ans drowsiness. He was extracted by RS bird to Duc Pho on instruction by LTC Coast.
04 Jan 1950 69th Rangers made contact at 512402...results 1 VC KIA and at 529397...results 1 VC KIA.
05 Jan 0500 C 3/1 and PF plt 188 grid 564730.The PF while moving to ambush site received fire from an ambush of approx 30 VC. PF returned to OP with WIA. The OP received 3 bursts of AK fire from rge NE.
05 Jan 1055 Weather to bad to extract company D. If possible we will take them back to Duc Pho. We do not have facilities to keep 2 companies at LZSJ. Co D is out of chow and it is their 17th day in the field.
05 Jan 1110 From D Co to CP:Norman T. Fox has a temp of 101 and vomitting, diarea, weak and sore feet. Will be extracted to SJH . Will be accomplished during emergency resupply of rations to D Co.
06 Jan 0800 From B Co 3-2 PFC Nelson, Anthony A #8189 has a twisted knee. It is swollen and he is unable to walk on it...evacuate to SJH.
06 Jan 1045 Co C at time 1045 at grid 541429 found 2 hootches, bunker and papers.
06 Jan 1145 Co A 1-1 at grid 614467 while on patrol found a 82 mm Chinese mortar.
06 Jan 1730 Co C 1-2 at grid 535427 had a patrol traveling down a N/S trail....threw a grenade in tunnel. They searched it and discovered a female KIA 18 years old.

07 Jan 1430 Fr B Co to CP/: Eckert, Don T. and McLamore, Ricky S. of B Co were evacuated to SJH for severe poision ivy and recurring blood poisioning respectively.
08 Jan 1240 Co B 1-2 at grid 574422 came upon two hootches with 2 men in fatigues with helmets.....shots fired 1 VC/NVA KIA.
08 Jan 1445 Co C 2-1 req a dustoff for 5 year old boy with hand wound and a girl 14 years old with leg wounds in both legs, from a M-16.
08 Jan 1625 Co B 3-1 reg dustoff line #'s 38 and 117 . Line 38 inner ear bleeding. Line 117 relapse of malaria.
09Jan 0830 Co B 1-2 at grig 573421 had a mech detonate 081930. One VC/NVA KIA of military age wearing black pj's.

10 Jan 1930 C Co 2-3 at 559401 and 547407, 1 VC KIA and CP spotted 15/25 in the open.
10 Jan 1947 C Co 2-3 ele w/ sniper team No 2 ar 536431 at 101947 spotted 2 VC ...one w/wpn engaged and wounded man. Sniper pursued second man...results 2 VC KIA.
10 Jan 2035 C Co Sniper team ar 555401 spotted between 15/25 VC/NVA crossing a river, all had weapons. Arty fired for 2 minutes after inital spotting.
11 Jan 0945 B Co To CP/ Phillips, Loyd T. SGT 8415 has a infected boil on his knee. Will be evacuated on resupply bird.
11 Jan 1132 Co B 3-2 at grid 574423 came upon two hootches w/smoking tunnel.They threw in a grenade with result...1 VC female of military age.
11 Jan 1747 Co B 2-2 req dustoff for GlenA. Lewis SGT 0963 for blood poisoning.
11 Jan 1905 Co B 3-1 at grid 570422 had a mech detonate, resulting in 1 NVA KIA male approx age 20 years old.
12 Jan 810 Co B 3-1 at grid 568422 got one NVA KIA in a mech. He has the following items: NVA fatigues, T-shirt, scarf, rain coat, tobacco, wallet, underware, bug juice, hamock and rice.
12 Jan 1415 Co D 2-2 at grid 623458 spotted 17 VC/NVA w/wpns and were 800 yards away when spotted.They were engaged with arty.
12Jan 2343 Co B 1-1 ae 677423 had 1 mech detonate and heard vocies afterward appox 150 meters. Will check at first light.

13 Jan 0915 Co D 3-1 at grid 644448 while preparing to leave NDP their night location at 645451 had a mech detonate....results 1 VC / NVA KIA.
13 Jan 0930 Co B 1-1 at 577423 had a mech detonate...results 1 VC / NVA KIA.
13 Jan 1430 Co D Recon 1st team as grid 620453 spotted 2 VC / NVA at 75 meters. One w/wpn Ak-47 and helmet. The element fired with neg results.
13 Jan 1815 Recon 2nd team at grid 624456 had a mech detonate...results a 200 lb pig.
14 Jan 1030 Recon 2nd Team at grid 622461 made investgation of area where fired 2 days ago. It revealed a old base camp which had been destroyed by arty. Spider holes found which showed recent use.
14 Jan 1250 Co D Recon 2 nd team at grid 615464 found a base camp which has been destroyed by GI's. Neg findings.
14 Jan 1720 Co A 2-1 at grid 522396 found 3 hootches with a arms cache:M-1 carbine, M-16, 4 boxes of fuses, 1 box of charges, 9- 60mm mortar rounds, 16-82mm mortar rounds and 2 russian bars with left handed bolts.
14 Jan 1905 Recon 2nd team at grid 617472 sppotted 6 VC in the open with packs and weapons.Engaged with arty...results unknown.
15 Jan 0800 Recon CP at grid 622456 has a mech detonate last night.Was investigated this morning with negative results. An animal had set off the mech.
15 Jan 1150 From A Co to CP/ Burton, David C. 6218 has cyst on rectum. Recommend he be extracted to SJH.
15 Jan 1904 Co A 3-2 at grid 514387 while set up in NDP element had a mech detonate. Went out to check it out and was ambushed by VC with a M-16. Had negative results.

16 Jan 0915 Co C 3-2 at grid 638323 they found a storage hootche containing 10 pounds of rice, 2 lb of corn, 6 lbs of salt, 1917 Winchester bolt action with ammo, and 1 M-60 round.
16 Jan 0955 Co D 2-1 at grid 634471 spotted 3 VC moving toward them on trail. Element is folling blood trail. 1015 Element has 2 VC CIA and have captured a VC hospital.
16 Jan 1330 Co A 1-1 at grid 526402 while moving into a area ..saw smoke and fired - results 1 VC female KIA.
16 Jan 1504 Co A 1-2 at grid 526402 approached hooch and killed 1 VC / NVA KIA wearing black pj's and military age. Found 1 VC /NVA female KIA in tunnel.
17 Jan 0600 Fr Bde/Tate: Weather report, clear skies, winds from SE at 5-15 knots. Temp: 82 high 67 low Hum: 90 high 65 low with little change through Tuesday.
17 Jan 2330 Saw movement South of SJH 200 meters....fired illum and 4 rounds of HE.
18 Jan 1040 Co D 1-2 at grid 637456 found two signs. First sign enemy left between two trees and the second was rock he size of a human.
18 Jan 1520 Arty Hill: Last night Arty fired direct HR on 2 enemy personnel south of hill. Element checked and discovered a 105 mm HE booby trap set up at this location.
18 Jan 1810 Co B 2-1 at grid 483460 found a basket on a trail running NS containing 6 chickens and 12 freshly cut bamboo poles.
18 Jan 1835 Co A 4-1 at grid 517341 while setting up a mech spotted 1 VC at 150 meters. They fired and pursued for 400 meters.neg results-slight blood trail.
18 Jan 1930 Co B 2-1 at grid 485461 had a mech to detonate.Prior to detonation they heard female voices and movement..will check first light.

19 Jan 0745 Co B 2-1 at grid 485461 had a mech detonate...2 male VC / NVA KIA wearing OD shirt and pants. One had a NVA pistol belt and black tennis shoes.
19 Jan 1105 Co D at grid 623467 found 3 hootches , made of grass sticks and bamboo. There was an 82mm round on the trail...which had a trip wire trigger.
19 Jan 1115 Co A 1-1 at grid 528407 they found 1 hootch with 3 bunkers....hootch was destroyed.
19 Jan 1240 Co B 2-2 at grid BS 487457 were moving N on trail when they spotted 5 hootches and heard movement in vic. Found farming implements , baskets and rice,
19 Jan 1340 Co D 3-1 at grid 622477 spotted 2 VC with packs and weapons 1400 At Grid 505385 movement in dense foliage and they fired in that direction.....wounded 2 males and one female.
19 Jan 1433 Co A 3-1 at grid 505385 came upon 5 VC fixing a meal.The element opened fire killing 2 VC males and wounding 1 VC female.
19 Jan 1740 Co B 2-1 at grid 488459 found 2 hootches containing 150 lbs rice, 2 crossbows and 30 coins.
20 Jan 1030 Co B 2-1 at grid 489459 found 6 hootches made of thatch and bamboo.

11 Feb. 71 0915 C Co 1st Platoon CA : LZ1 is hot.Element reports 1 NVA WIA . Location XD910564.
11 Feb. 71 2040 C Co 1st Platoon at XD913562 spotted a NVA 10 feet from the LZ. They opened fire on NVA and he retreated SE into the brush. A patrol went into the brush and found 1 NVA KIA and captured 2 AK-47's, 2 chicoms, helmet belt and uniform.
12 Feb 71 0900 C Company 1st platoon at grid 919553 spotted 1 NVA ...Engaged with small arms fire with neg results.
12 Feb 71 1005 A Company 2nd platoon at XD 922533 was engaged with command detonated claymores, chicoms and small arms fire.The rest of A Company moved to assist....arty and air strikes were employed...Results 2 US KIA and 8 US WIA.
