Recon platoon at LZ San Juan Hill had 2 trip flares go off in front of bunkers 3 & 4. Bunkers will stay on 100 % alert for 1 hour. Will check out wire at first light.

Alpha Company at grid location BS754400, found and destroyed the following; 3 57 recoilless rounds, 1 RPG-7 round, 1 RPG firing device, 1 M-79 HE round, 3 AK-47 loaded magazines, 1 9mm w/loaded magazine, 1 AK-47 empty magazine, 1 US .45 caliber pistol w/holster, 1 US canteen/cover, 1 NVA entrenching tool, and 1 pair of NVA trousers.

Alpha Company at grid location BS755400, found a dead body of 1 NVA which is approx 60 days old and dressed in US fatigues w/ handmade rubber sandals w/ belt and 1st aid pouch.

Helix at grid location BS684384, partially destroyed 25 bunkers, and received 3 secondary explosions. Atry and 4.2 were called in at grid location BS681384 resulting in 1 NVA KIA and 6 secondary explosions.

Charlie Company at grid location BS686386, found 15 to 20 bunkers, 1 dud 250 pound bomb, 1 rocket pod, 1 NVA pack which was destroyed.

Bravo Company at grid BS660411, found the following; 5 canteens, 6 NVA pistol belts, 12 pairs of Vietnamese sandals, 2 AK-47 magazines (1 loaded & 1 empty), all were destroyed.

Charlie Company at grid location BS683387, found 1 dead body approx 24 days old, and been apparently buried and dug up by some animal and been partially eaten. Also in the same vicinity they found 50 bunkers w/overhead cover 4'x8'x6'feet deep. Area was littered with empty mackerel cans, recently used.

Recon platoon at LZ San Juan Hill, had movement in front of bunkers 3 & 4, illumination fired on the Northeast corner. Engaged with small arms fire /hand grenades & 81mm mortar...Results; unknown. Flareship called.

Flareship comes on station and begins dropping flares, around LZ San Juan Hill -Bunker 3 & 4 vicinity. At 2345 hrs. leaves LZ San Juan Hill for another mission.

Charlie Company at grid location BS680382, found a map partly destroyed with writing on back. Interpreters say the writing read"This unit killed 1000 Americans GI's and shot down 100 helicopters".

Bravo Company at grid location BS639439, while on patrol found 9 graves (6 old & 3 fresh), 3 chicom grenades, and 1 pair of green NVA pants.

Late Entry; At 2100 hrs Alpha Company at grid location BS695444, spotted 3 lights that were believed to be camp fires. Arty mission was called in with unknown results.

Delta Company on LZ San Juan Hill requested a dust off for 1 US EM from Delta Company with broken left knee. Dust off completed by C&C ship at 1410 hrs.

Bravo Company at grid location BS639453, found the following: 1 wallet,  1 NVA pistol belt, 1 hammock, 600 lbs of rice, 1 NVA shirt, 1 poncho, 1 mosquito net, 1 flashlight, 1st aid pack containing vitamins pills, 30 cans of mackerel, 35 cans of milk, 30 cans of spaghetti, and all items were destroyed.

Alpha Company at grid location BS725418, found; 1 US steel pot w/E-5 stripes and name were on sweat band (will be evacuated to LZ San Juan Hill) 1 supplement of RPG-7 charges.

Alpha Company's 2nd platoon at grid BS726418; found; 1 ruck sack, 1 plastic gas mask w/Russian filters; 3rd platoon at grid location BS729418, found 32  81mm rounds, several documents and a grave with a body less than 24 hrs old and apparently killed by a 4.2.

Bravo Company's 2nd platoon at grid location BS625442, found 5 hooches, 2 tunnels, potatoes and corn fields not recently worked; 3rd platoon at grid location BS626449, found sleeping positions for 4-5 persons and which have been used in the past few days.

Bravo Company's 2nd platoon at grid location BS625442,  found; VC resupply list, 1 rock hooch-used 2-3 days ago, 1 NVA pack, 2 pairs  of black pj's, old campsite for 1-5 personnel; 3rd platoon at grid location BS626449, found campsite used 1-3 days ago, bamboo freshly cut, and 5 gal can of fish oil for cooking.

Alpha Company's 1st platoon at grid location BS722417, found; 1 NVA pack, 1 57 recoilless rifle round, 1 medical kit, 2 Ak-47 magazines, 2 NVA shovels, 2 ruck sacks, 2 chicom grenades, 77 rounds of AK-47 ammo, 3 82mm mortar rounds, 1 NVA pick.

Bravo Company at grid location BS641430 had 1 trip flare go off. Element engaged with M-79, hand grenades, 81mm, negative casualties and negative results.

Bravo Company's 2nd platoon at grid location BS623468. While on patrol 2nd platoon engaged 5 NVA w/small arms fire, resulting in ; 1 NVA KIA wearing a grey uniform w/negative weapons & documents.

LRRP team Oregon requested extraction at the grid location BS615474 because of a injured personnel. Extraction of team completed at 1500 hrs.

Bravo Company and Recon Platoon w/Warlords at grid location BS617488, found; 1 base camp, that contained numerous bunkers and camouflaged hooches; Warlords reported taking AK-47 ground fire. Engaged with enemy, resulting with; 3-5 VC/NVA KIA's.Arty called Helix on station. 15 VC women are being held.

Charlie Company's 1st platoon at grid location BS704327, found 18 graves with bodies that were 4-5 years old.

Late Entry; Bravo Company at 1355 hrs. at BS602472, had 2 trip flares go off, at a old NDP site by 4 VC's wearing black pj's. Engaged VC with Arty & 81mm with unknown results.

08 Aug 69 1015

Late Entry; At 0915 hrs. Charlie Company observed 6 persons that were searching their NDP at grid location BS714380. 3 men were wearing shorts w/black pj tops and 3 men had on blue-green outfits.Arty mission was called in and person evaded to the West. 81mm mortars covered the withdrawal routes, and element swept area with negative results.

Charlie Company at grid location BS720386, engaged 2 NVA, resulting in ; 2 NVA KIA, captured 2 AK-47 rifles, 1 B-40 rocket round, 3 chicom grenades, and 2 packs. Also found 1 mosquito net, 1 helmet, 1 NVA canteen, cooking utensils, and the serial #'s for the AK-47 captured rifles.

Bravo Company at grid location BS624428, killed 2 VC by small arms fire, the VC were carrying rice in small packs.

Delta Company at grid location BS753402, received chicom and small arms fire from 10-12 NVA from the Southeast. 2030                                                                               Flareship requested for Delta Company                     2035                                                                                      Delta Company reported a secondary explosion from 81mm mortars and have 4 NVA/VC KIA.                                     2045                                                                                      Delta Company at same location reported heavy contact to the North with negative casualties. 2205                                                                            Emergency resupply of ammunition to Delta Company. Flareship on station until 2230 hrs.                                    2220                                                                                      Delta Company confirmed 2 NVA KIA  & captured 1 AK-47 rifle.2312 Delta Company had movement and heard Vietnamese talking outside their perimeter. 4-5 VC/NVA were shouting "Chieu Hoi". Bn has requested a psych op  interpreter from Bde.

Bravo Company's 3rd platoon at grid location BS627425, engaged 1 VC in a tunnel with a hand grenade. Results; 1 VC KIA, and captured 1 M-16 rifle with magazine of 15 rounds. Documents will be sent to LZ San Juan Hill. M-16 serial # 146106.

Bravo Company reported 1 US EM wounded by frag in the lower left leg. He had chased a VC into a tunnel and engaged with a hand grenade.

Bravo Company at grid location BS627431, found; a well camouflaged area w/ about 14 sleeping positions, 2bunkers (well built) and used with in 24 hours, 3 carbine magazines, 5  50cal rounds, 1 canteen of wine, cookware for about 30 people, & salt and pepper.

Warlords at grid location BS624425, reported that scout ship received small arms fire. Fired on the grid, resulting in 1 secondary explosion. Went back and received more small arms fire.

10 Aug 69 2000

Charlie Company's 3rd platoon, 2nd squad LP in NDP were putting out trip flares, when 2 VC/NVA set off a trip flare and opened up on LP w/small arms fire. LP engaged and returned  w/small arms fire, 81mm mortar & Arty...Results unknown.

11 Aug 69 0940

Late Entry; Alpha Company's 3rd platoon at 0835 hrs. at grid location BS633382, spotted 1 NVA/VC w/ shorts, no  shirt, no weapon. Engaged with Arty and 81mm mortar, but enemy evaded to the West ....results unknown.

Bravo Company's 2nd platoon found 1 camouflaged hut and 2 VC KIA wearing black pj's and killed by 4.2.

LZ San Juan Hill radar reports a Company size of VC/NVA force are on the Northwest finger outside the perimeter. All  units are notified and siren is sounded. All positions are taken by LZ San Juan Hill reactionary forces.                  2035                                                                                       Alpha Company's CP reports visual sighting of enemy at Northwest perimeter.

Delta Company at grid BS753386, requests a dust off for 1 US EM from Delta Company, who is unconscious after an overdose of drugs (tedrol is suspected). Dust off called at 2000 hrs. and completed at 2040 hrs.

Battalion is notified that flareships and gunships are coming on station. 1 incoming mortar round, hit LZ San Juan Hill trash dump. Trip flare goes off in front of Bunker # 17, and 3 NVA approached Bunker # 17. Bunker # 16 reports 1 wounded NVA against a rock...engaged with a M-79.

Alpha Company on sweep around LZ San Juan Hill found 2 NVA KIA, 36  chicom grenades & 1 AK-47 rifle.

Alpha Company's 3rd platoon at grid location BS631375, found 1 NVA sapper WIA and wearing black shorts. Alpha Company interpreter said" 6 NVA came up the hill last night", 4 NVA were in the area. At grid location BS625374 was a NVA base camp w/ 120 NVA and 60 AK-47 rifles. 1 NVA was shot in the ankle, and dust off was called in at 1015 hrs.

Charlie Company at grid location BS748404, found 1 .30 cal machine gun w/serial # 1403, 2 M-72 LAW, 1 round 57 recoilless rifle, numerous M-60 rounds, 1 NVA wallet, various documents, rain jacket, change of clothes, 1 stock for M-14 rifle.
