The element has 6 detainees with bunkers. The detainees were 5 women and a boy. Negative ID of the hooches...they were 10' x 20' with  bunkers(4' x 5' underneath). Two major trails in the area running North-South with signs of heavy use.

Results: 1 VC/NVA KIA, Male-25 years of age, wearing green shirt & pants, GI socks, and HCM sandals. Was carrying a satchel containing 5 tablets with witting in it. Also had a folder with paper back books in it. He was carrying large home made rucksack containing 1 green shirt, 1 pair of brown shorts, 1 w/p bag, 1 NVA canteen, 2 bars of soap, 1 first aid bag....50 lbs of rice and potatoes. Will back haul satchel and contents and destroy the remainder. Engaged at approx 45 meters, trail ran East-West.

Found blood trail while following blood and spotted 2 more VC...Engaged resulting in 2 KIA. Element while sweeping area found 4 hooches and 1 bunker ....with blood trail running to bunker. Element through hand frag in bunker after yelling Chuoi Hoi Results: 4 VC KIA. Together 2 females ages 22 & 27. 5 males ages 25-30-35-20-15. No weapons found. One rucksack new clothing..The clothing was in bags marked Tam Ky and Quang Tien. KIA's wearing civilian Dink Clothing. Hooches size 8' x 15'....bunker 8' x 10' ....4 months old.

Recon Eagle flight 161400-1700 hrs at 1611530 at 102238, Gunships   engaged 3 VC with packs, and negative weapons. They evaded to the West. Recon inserted at initial spotting area. Found 3 rucks & 6 blood trails. Swept further with scout dog finding 5 more rucks. Followed blood trails for approx 500 meters to the NW until they disappeared.Were picked up at 1650. Total CIA 11 rucks with assorted documents...back hauled to IPW at first opportunity. Are was honeycombed with tunnels (6' in diameter) Recon found 25 and thinks there are more.Tunnels contained clothes and cooking utensils.There are also 6 hooches (20' x 10') w/clothing and cooking utensils...These were burned.

Late Entry: To Bde/Pane by Kennedy: Alpha Company 2nd platoon at 194125, early this morning on VR, two poles with what looked like blue shirts were spotted. They were  about 100 meters apart. Alpha Company 2nd platoon was inserted near this area in a CA. Shirts were blankets and were very large and directly over bunkers. Element moved in and started checking and sweeping area. They received fire from 200 meters to the NE. Estimate enemy force 15-20 VC/NVA......1 US KIA....4 US WIA...also Sp/4 Cordes, Mack .

From Alpha Company CP... Element at 207125 at 1100 hrs while they were on patrol found a bunker. Dimensions of the bunker were 5' x 10' feet, made of logs and rocks with 2 feet of overhead cover and well camouflaged. There were numerous trails in all directions. Located beside a potato patch. The bunker was over one year old but had been used recently within 3-5 days. Inside it contained a 250 pound bomb with explosives removed. Will destroy later by air strike.

He had negative pack or weapon. KIA was carrying approx 300-400 piasters. After engaging VC element formed up another sweep of the area. One individual  accidentally discharged his weapon-seriously wounding

They engaged VC/NVA which was spotted earlier. Results: 5 KIA's all males and 1 POW (female). She was shot in the leg. They also have 1 Chieu Hoi.

There were 4 trails in area all running South of stream. Scout believes there were 4 VC in the area yesterday.

To Bde/Pane by Kennedy:  Recon at 1135 hrs at grid 179088 while on patrol detonated a booby trap resulting in 3 US WIA: 1-leg injuries, 1-multiple shrapnel wounds, 1 shrapnel to face and face burns. Booby trap  was pressure release type firing device, 60 mm mortar round located in the middle of trail with punji pit beside it. WIA's were evacuated at 1210 hrs to 91st Evacuation Hospital. Bomb crater was 2' deep and 3' in diameter.

All magazines were unserviceable due to  rust. Found in a burlap sack 6" underground. 1 magazine was partially sticking out of ground. Negative trails in area, negative hooches. Approx 6 months to 1 year old.  All will be destroyed. Was traveling East on East-West trail when mech detonated. Will back haul ASAP, Element followed blood trail approx 75 meters and it ran out w/negative results.

KIA was a male approx 45 years old and wearing green pants and shirt and HCM sandals. CIA: 1 AK-47, 1 full magazine, 1 VC poncho, 2 bush hats, 1 pen, 1 comb, 1 ,  lighter, 1 ring, 1 hammock, tobacco, 1 parachute flare , 2  pieces of paper writing and 1 rice bowl.

Charlie Company 1st platoon at 1600 hrs at grid 136995 while on patrol approached a hooch 4' x 5' 8' on East-West trail. Found 1 4' x 4' x 4' bunker, 3 cooking cans, 1 spoon, 2 pots and 3 dishes. Last used 1-3 days. Hooch and bunker w/utensils will be destroyed.

Alpha Company was CA'd to the AO from Professional and Delta Company was CA'd to Professional and then to Chu Lai by CH-47. Bravo Company was moved by CH-47 from Chu Lai to Professional. Recon moved to Chu Lai by CH-47 from Professional. A Air Cav team working AC 38 spotted 1VC/NVA evading at 1545 hrs  at grid 190068 and engaged him. The blues were inserted and confirmed 1 VC/NVA KIA.

From Alpha Company to Rosane: At 1112 hrs at location grid 138059, while on security patrol CP/A found 3 -   3' x 4' bunkers last used 1 month or more. In bunkers found 3 alien mortar rounds believed to be 2  Russian 82 mm rounds and 1 unidentified round will be extracted on day 3. Remaining Russian round detonated. Old mortar pit also found in area overlooking Professional w/3 expended mortar casings. 12 pictures taken of location, bunkers & rounds. To Bde/Pane by Blevins at 1245 hrs.

While element was pursuing and engaged w/SAF resulting in 1  NVA KIA 23, wearing black shirt and green trousers: CIA : 1 NVA poncho, 1 NVA canteen, 1 rice knife, small bag of grass, 1 make-shift ruck cont: various personal items...negative documents or ID or weapons. Element will destroy everything.

To Bde/Simon by Plonka: Alpha Company opened metal box they found w/mortars other day. There was 1 new mortar round was 4-5" shorter than others. Possibly a 82 mm round: had Russian markings on it.

A bamboo water pipe and cold water shower. 400 lbs of rice destroyed and also destroyed were 100 lbs of potatoes and corn....and one storage bin with a capacity of 1000 lbs. 2 lbs of soybean oil donated by the US-with a helping hand picture on it. The doctor was wearing a Swiss made Paul Grand watch.

R/S bird evacuated man to the 91st Evacu -ation Hospital. Suspect enemy location in the vicinity of 244999. Negative knowledge of any hits on bird. Element is engaging w/M-79 fire and red leg has a mission worked up at this time. R/S bird was at an altitude of 4'feet, hovering and received 3 rounds./ One in the nose under carriage and one on medic. Direction from aircraft 270 degrees.

To Bde/Marata by Nelsen: Alpha Company 3rd pla -toon...while on LP at grid 175029. Element spotted 5 VC and engaged them. Results: 5 VC KIA. VC were crossing blue line and traveling North to South. The point man in the element yelled Chieu Hoi. Upon hearing this VC evaded to the East and were engaged at 30 meters. They were black pj's and carried rucksacks containing 50 lbs of rice and various other clothing. Thet appeared to be transporters and had negative ID or weapons. Element buried the dead.

One male and female were wearing black pj's....Other male had khaki uniform on. CIA was one AK-47 with 30 rounds and one magazine. Also had 2 frag's, 1 NVA canteen, and bobby trap material. Found 2 hooches 10' x 12' and 4 bunkers sizes 8' x 10'. Trails running in all directions in area. Element will bury the dead......Materials CIA will be back hauled to LZ Professional.

To Bde/Pane by Trone: Charlie Company 1st platoon at grid 191091. While on patrol the element encountered one hooch 12' x 10' x 8' with bunker underneath it...approx the same size. Inside hooch was 3 freshly made bunks with writings on them. One can of freshly opened sardines. Upon further investigation they found cooking pots, a bamboo water pipe line to a hooch, and as the element swept the trail near the hooch, they came upon 12 additional hooches. They were approx 10' x 12' x 6' and very close together on line. There were 6 bunkers under 6 of the hooches. Inside these hooches they found a math book, writing paper, desk and chair. Element believes it to be some sort of training center-built in the last 6 months to a year. The place showed use in the last 48 hours.

To Bde/Hatfield by Rosane: Delta Company 2nd platoon 3rd squad at grid 280097, had MA detonate. Upon checking the MA they found 2 VC killed. VC were male 25 & 20 wearing blue clothing. Element found 1 rucksack which contained a bottle of vitamins and 2 HCM sandals for men. Also CIA was one VC bush hat and 2 sets of female clothing. MA was on well used trail running North-South. VC were moving NorthSouth. Element will bury the  dead.

While on patrol they found 2 rucksacks, 75 lbs of unclean rice, 15 cans of sardines, 2 hammocks, VC type plastic, 1 VC shirt, one pair of Ho Chi Minh sandals, VC had  just evaded to the North. On a well used North-South trail...Negative documents.

To Bde/Murata by Rosane: Bravo Company CP DTG 130745 at grid 287012. Had a MA go off and upon checking it found 4 NVA KIA and 1 NVA WIA, recon by fire changing the WIA-KIA. NVA was wearing green pants and green shirt. NVA were traveling North on a North-South trail. NVA had a wicker basket with one hammock, and 3 blasting caps, one pistol belt, 3 chicom  grenades, one NVA canteen, age 20, Other  NVA killed by small arms fire while moving in same direction. He had a pack with 30 lbs of rice. Also had green pants and one NVA canteen, one blasting cap, wallet with documents which will be back hauled. Element will bury the dead. The NVA  before expiring  /threw a chicom grenade at the element with negative results.

Last Entry: To Bde/Simone by Trono at 1625 hrs. Delta Company 1/1 DTG 131425 at grid 287064, Element found 2 hooches, upon hearing noises inside hooches they reconed by fire. Results-1 VC KIA...age 45 male, wearing brown pants and brown shirt. One VC ran out back of hooch up hill to SE. Element opened fire....While firing M-79 rounds, one hit top of tree causing an air burst and wounding Charles Dault  Sp/4, in the shoulder and arm. He was dusted off. Hooch sizes were 10' x 10' x 8' & 20' x 10'. Approx 3 months old. In hooches found 150 lbs of rice,  50 lbs of corn, 100 lbs of peas, and 7 pairs of dink clothing. 4 hammocks, medical supplies, cook ware, also found a notebook and documents, also found one green NVA shirt with a diamond patch on left shoulder. Trails in area were well used and ran SouthEast to NorthWest. Element will bury VC-KIA.

To Bde/Pane by Trone: DTG 0800 Bravo Company 2/3 at grid 289006, Element MA detonated resulting in one NVA KIA. He was wearing green uniform, age 20, and was carrying a AK-47, which was operational. Also CIA was full magazine of AK-47 ammo. (sn#-10126156) One chicom, documents, clothing, one pair  ov VC type, 31 lbs of rice, medical bottles w/pills, surgical instruments, penicillin pills. NVA was moving to the North on a North-South trail. NVA had walked through elements Southern most earlier and hand picked up one claymore body. Element found short way from KIA, one rucksack w/50 lbs of cooked rice, 2 lbs of tobacco.  Element will bury the dead.

He was 20 years old and element CIA'd one AK-47, with magazine of 25 rounds, Serial number # 110740662. Also had a hammock, one parachute flare, one chicom and one notebook. Element will bury the dead.

To Bde/Pane by Rosane: Alpha Company CP DTG 151100   grid location 215070. Prior to insertion of Alpha Company CP, gunships spotted a suspected VC wearing blue uniforms at grid location 215073. Alpha Company CP was inserted at the grid 215070 to sweep area. Point man noticed 3 sticks in a circular pattern before booby trap detonated. A click was heard prior the blast. Suspect a claymore or M-79 round w/trip wire. Results: 1 US KIA...2 US WIA. Extracted by lift ships to 91st Evac. Slight wounds suffered by 2 US and 1 New Zealand VIP-Major Ogilvy. Element extracted to professional ....Element will be inserted into pre-planned LZ at approx 1330.

They found  1 SkS w/10 rounds, 1 AK-47 w/20 rounds. 1 wore camouflaged fatigues: the other had a regular NVA uniform, negative footwear, CIA 2 GT pistol belts, 1 chicom, 1 letter, 1 notebook and pen, 1 cigarette lighter, with # 641 on it. and 1 bag of marijuana: traveling on North-South trail heading South . platoon buried dead.

Element checked out trail and found one wash cloth with Lucky 333 written on it. VC had earlier walked through MA, but the battery was dead. VC evaded back up the trail.

Radar failed to detect any further movement....Delta Company will check out area.
